Distinguished Flying Medal GVI named (636801 F/Sgt W A Peterkin RAF), 1939-45 Star, Africa Star, F & G Star, Defence & War Medal. With large folder of collector research. Lived Burghead, Morayshire. DFM recommendation for 625 Sqdn in particular Gelsenkirchen and Stuttgart, and on 10th June 1944 while returning from an attack at Acheres F/Sgt Peterkin saw a friendly bomber being attacked by an enemy fighter, his skill and co-operation with the Pilot and Mid Upper Gunner meant they could open fire on the enemy, shooting him down. L/G 14/11/1944. Later, while flying in Lancaster LM546 of 625 Sqdn sent to bomb Stuttgart, 39 Lancasters including LM546 failed to return, with all 7 crew members being captured by the Germans, becoming Prisoners of War. Peterkin was a member of the Caterpillar Club. (6)
