Victorian Welsh 1822/45 Infantry Officer's Sword Brecon Rifles


30 3/4 inch, single edged, slightly curved blade with large fuller.  Traces of etched floral panels and "Brecon Rifles"?.  Strung bugle and name within a scroll "G Howell".  Brass Gothic guard with crowned "VR" cypher cartouche.  Brass, stylised floral backstrap.  Grip absent.  Blade worn with heavy pitting to lower section.  

The Army list of 1872 notes a Marmaduke George Howell serving as a Captain of the 5th Builth Bn, he is still serving in 1880
