A .577" Volunteer Snider Cavalry carbine, 37½" overall, barrel 19" with 3 groove rifling, the Mark III breech having ordnance proofs, Bow inspector's marks and stamped "Steel"; the line engraved lock marked with crowned "VR" and "1859 Tower"; walnut halfstock with screws for rear sight cover, the butt stamped with "2" over "N-C" and with sling swivel eye beneath; brass mounts, the trigger guard with eyelet for attaching snap cap chain (missing), the buttplate tang stamped with "V" over "1Ww.C" (Warwick), the butt with trap for 2 piece cleaning rod (the lower part missing, the upper part rethreaded), with brass side nail cups. GWO & C, with dark patina to steel parts (some wear, lock slightly pitted) Plate 3
