A presentation sabre, early 19th c, the blade etched THIS KNIFE WAS PRESENTED TO JOHN LEWIS RICARDO ESQR MP CHAIRMAN OF THE NORTH STAFFORDSHIRE RAILWAY COMPANY BY THE CONTRACTORS & OTHERS FOR THE PURPOSE OF CARVING AN OX WHICH WAS ROASTED WHOLE AT THE DANE VIADUCT UPON THE OCCASION OF OPENING THE POTTERY LINE TO MACCLESFIELD ON JUNE 14 18[ ], the antler hilt carved to either side with deer, plated brass plate-pommel, blade 71cm
The Pottery Line ran from Colwich to Macclesfield. It was one of the three railways that the North Staffordshire Railway Company was authorised to construct.
