Pagán was the capital city of the Kingdom of Pagán, the first incarnation of the unified state that now comprises the modern country of Myanmar. In these three volumes Professor Luce described the history, architecture and art of Pagán’s “golden century”. The third volume is the core of the work with hundreds of B&W plates, which are catalogued in the second volume. The first volume provides a detailed context and background to the Buddhist temples, stupas, pagodas and monasteries as well as the representative and decorative art.
