Great Britain: Farquhar-Hill Automatic Rifle Syndicate Limited, £1 shares, 19[19], #63, ornate border, black. A British invented semi-automatic rifle first patented in 1908 in the UK and in the U.S.A. in the following year. It was a complicated design and therefore not thought suitable for the military so was revised several times. It was extensively tested including by the military especially when war broke out in 1914, and was finally approved in 1918 and an order was placed for 100,000 units. Too late however as the war was soon over and the order cancelled before production could take place. Further developments were made during the 1920's and 30's but these were rejected. VF and rare.
