A pair of late 19th century Chinese silk stumpwork embroideries of birds in forest settings, on pale blue silk background, 49 by 39cm, framed and glazed. These are reputed to have travelled from Shanghai to London on the famous Tea Clipper the Cutty Sark in 1872, and have been passed down through the vendor's family from Captain Tiptaft alongside a model of the clipper made to celebrate her renowned voyage that year as she travelled eight thousand miles across the oceans with a jury rudder, Captain Tiptaft was the third master of the ship from 1873-1878.
