This fabulous pair of original ‘black light’ images, by T. McAlister, are titled ‘Brother’ and ‘Sister’ and are the complete set from the ‘Black is Beautiful’, 1970 series, printed and released in 1971 by Sunset Marketing, Inc., of Los Angeles, California. The ‘Black is Beautiful’ is a cultural movement that was started in the United States in the 1960’s by African Americans. The ‘Black is Beautiful’ movement was based around a fight for an equal perception of the black body to help undo all the negative ideas brought about by a history based in white supremacy. These posters were published at the height of the Movement. These fabulous ‘Brother’ and ‘Sister’ images measure 78cm by 58cm. They have been sympathetically framed with a gloss black, wooden frame behind glass, the colours of these lithographs are fabulous! The posters are without damage and professionally framed, being set on foam board to maintain the original properties of this artwork.
