Interesting contents ref. postal rates; "I have in front of me the two letters which you have done me the honour to send... Your letters for France & Spain are en route. I must tell you that I have seen that you have written several times to your friend in Madrid; you should not be surprised if he did not receive your letters, because I suppose you ignored the need to prepay them and that you did not do it; it costs 18d sterling postage for a single letter, it also costs 10d to prepay each letter that you send me for France and also 3d from Winchester to London for each one. I tell you this so that when your acquaintances give you letters to convey them to France, you know what it costs." The writer also says that he has sent 2 guineas for the addressee to Plymouth.
