WW1 Distinguished Conduct Medal and 1914-15 Star trio to 9727 Sjt J.W. Kimberley 10/R. War R. (LCpl on Star) good very fine and better, swing mounted as worn. Joseph William Kimberley's DCM was announced in the London Gazette dated 26th January 1917 "For conspicuous gallantry in action. With a few men he held an exposed post for two days and nights against very superior numbers of the enemy. He set a splendid example throughout."
Sold with matching set of swing mounted miniatures (Star is 1914), original Certificate on Demobilization, Knowle Tribute scroll, 19th (Western) Division hand written extended citation scroll dated 20th June 1917 which reads:
"This NCO was in charge of a post on the exposed right flank of the captured German Line. The post consisted of about 15 men of different units, unknown to one another, but he commanded them so well that they were able successfully to defy every effort of the enemy to drive them back for 2 days. On each night he managed to waylay and capture a small enemy ration party of about 8 men." This almost certainly for operations 7-10 June 1917.
With copied MIC, LG, he enlisted 14/12/14 and landed France 18/7/15.
Also with original photo post war with British Legion, 1 copied photo outside Knowle Motor Co, 2 ribbon bars, 1907 Dorridge Sunday School medal (un0named). Sold on behalf of the family, never before on the market. (See photo) (½B)
