Rare and early 19th c The Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society Silver "Golf Subscription" Oval shaped medal - the obverse is engraved "Golf Subscription Medal" and on the reverse engraved "Gained by Walter Lothian Esq - Edinr" - overall 2.25" together with Edinburgh silver hallmarks complete with a registered makers Hallmark "J N" for James Nasmyth who operated from the 2nd quarter of the 19th century. Research suggests that this medal was won 1826 as there were very few golf competitions. The Edinburgh Almanac from 1827 lists Walter Lothian as being holder of the medal given by The Bruntsfield Links Golfing Society.
