A fine pair of nearly life size wooden ancestral figures From Sulawesi Island Indonesia known as Tau Tau � each with articulated arms and legs as well as a head that can be turned and removed. Both figures stand on slightly bent legs with upper tenons pinned inside deep mortices and thick dowels to attach arms. Each head exhibits wrinkles, bared teeth and gaunt eye sockets. The minimalist design suggests they were adorned with clothing and jewellery to honour the dead. {148 cm H x 47 cm W x 40 cm D}.
