59th (2nd Nottinghamshire) Regiment of Foot Victorian Officer shoulder belt plate circa 1846-55. A splendid rare example of rococo pattern. Seeded gilt plate with raised border ornamented at the top by laurel leaves. Mounted on the plate, a cut silver star, each principal ray in gilt and bearing a battle honour. Mounted on the star, gilt laurel spray surmounted all what‘s going on a crown resting on a translucent red enamel scroll JAVA. To the centre, within a translucent red enamel circlet 2ND NOTTINGHAM, gilt LIX on a rich translucent red enamel domed ground. Reverse with two hooks and two studs. Minor restoration otherwise VGC.
