A LATE 19TH / EARLY 20TH CENTURY OAK CANTEEN CONTAINING A CHRISTOFLE GILT METAL DESSERT SERVICE, the hinged lid bearing a rectangular plaque inscribed 'THE RT. HONBLE. EARL OF NORTHBROOK', the front with remnants of red sealing wax and oval plaque inscribed '8' below the keyhole, carrying handles to the sides, the interior with a retailer's plaque for 'R & S GARRARD & CO. CROWN GOLDSMITHS & JEWELLERS 25 HAYMARKET LONDON W.', three tiers containing 138 pieces, comprising a sugar sifter, two ice spades, a pair of ice tongs, twenty four dessert forks, twelve tea spoons, a set of twelve .800 standard French ice spoons in a different pattern, 202.7 grams, the second tier fitted with twelve dessert knives with steel blades and twelve dessert knives with gilt blades, twenty four knives with Continental porcelain handles, hand painted with fruit and flowers (six with badly damaged / repaired handles and ten are missing the gilt handle tips), this tier is missing a pair of grape scissors, the bottom tier is fitted with twenty four dessert spoons, a pair of ladles and twelve table spoons, Earl of Northbrook is a descendent of the founder of Baring's bank (Condition report: specific damage is mentioned within the description, the blue baize interior is perished in places with some dividers missing)
