AN ASSORTED COLLECTION OF CARVED WOODEN AFRICAN PIECES, to include (i) a pair of carved wooden bookends, depicting female and male busts, (ii) a carved wooden paddle, with circular inlay, (iii) a carved wooden wall hanging, featuring the three wise monkeys. (4 pieces’ total). More about the carvings: traditionally the wall hanging features two figures and is referred to as a wedding chain. There is a man on one side, a woman on the other and it is a traditional symbol for a marriage and fertility. However this interesting iteration features the three wise monkeys embodying the proverbial principle "see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil".
