RARE "MALTA/SHIP LETTER" MARK - LATE USAGE - ON UNPAID COVER TO TURKEY; 29 Jan. 1873 unpaid mourning envelope (minor edge wear) to "Constantinople" (faint red British PO backstamp) charged "4" with a very fine rare "MALTA/SHIP LETTER" (nicely placed on the front along with manuscript "4" rate and v. fine small "A/MALTA" cds. An unusually late usage. [The similar May 1875 cover in Cavendish's Mar. 2010 Clive Smith Malta auction, lot 132, realised £690.] Exhibition Quality.
