each finely painted in grisaille with large peony heads at the centre, surrounded by smaller carnations, tulips, hibiscus, sunflower, iris and poppies, on a gilt ground, encircled by a border of continuous spirals, the rim with grisaille ribbon bows and floral clusters between bands of iron-red and gilt cell-pattern, the undersides with a rich ruby-red glaze
