The E-Class name first appeared in with the facelifted W124 in 1993. The diesel versions continued to be the fuel economy option over the four and six-cylinder gasoline engines, and the petrol V8 engines, available after 1992, increased petrol engine power outputs further. The V8 powered saloons were named 400 E/500 E from 1992–1993, and E 420/E 500 after 1993. Likewise, the 3.0-litre cars, for example 300 E. The W124 is built on a mid-sized vehicle platform. Due to the high cost of German engineering and build quality, the W124 was designed to last many miles, with awards actually given and worn by high mileage versions.
The E320 Sportline Cabriolet offered here is described by the vendor to be in good condition and to have nearly new tyres. The car has been known by the vendor all its life as he is the second owner, and the previous owner was the friend of his wife. The car has only 71,000 miles on the clock which is warranted by the vendor, and old MOT certificates, but the early history is said to have been lost by a Mercedes mechanic. The car has had two new Mercedes wings professionally fitted about 2,000 miles ago.
Although in good condition there are a few chips and scuffs to the bodywork and a minor oil leak at the rear of the engine. All is in full working condition except for the key fobs. The car has a 10 CD music system that “hides” itself when not in use. The wooden steering wheel is believed to be an addition at original purchase.
