Medieval Dagger Pommel  A Post Medieval copper alloy knife pommel in the form of a dog's head, a spaniel (AD1500-1600). John Clark identified this as the pommel from a single edged knife like a hunting dagger. The spaniel is usually associated with the Talbot family. He notes that single-edged knife pommels are often asymmetrical like this example. This pommel is hollow and is cast to form a three-dimensional dog’s head. There is a sub-oval perforation at the peak, probably the point to secure the pommel with the blade and the handle. The ears and the nose of the dog have cast details. Details of the eyes, fur and probably a collar have been engraved. The lower edges of the pommel are dished where it would sit adjacent to the grip. Dimensions: length: 35.37mm; width: 38.07mm; thickness: 22.05mm; weight: 84.74g. Identified by John Clark Senior Medieval Curator, Museum of London. PAS:LON-3C6C02.
