A good George III silver basket, gadrooned cast and applied rim with stylised shell detailing, lobed body and conforming pedestal foot, hinged foliate cast handle, the interior base of the basket engraved with the stag crest, London 1814, indistinct maker's mark, possibly W.I, 35 by 27 by 14cm (with handle down), 34.3toz. Provenance: The Estate of Mr Joseph B. Hay, son of Major-General Arthur K. Hay DSO OBE - 100 years of a military family.
