An early 18c eight day longcase clock, the 31cm sq. brass dial signed William Pain London and having cherub and orb spandrels and ringed winding holes. It has seconds and date indicators and Roman numerals with outer five minute Arabic numerals. The five pillar movement has anchor escapement and internal countwheel striking and is contained in a flat topped fruitwood case with plain columns flanking the dial and a long trunk door with beaded edge and two lines of edge crossbanding within. The plain base has a plain plinth and the clock stands 217cm tall overall.
The movement seems complete and clean and the dial is in quite good condition. The movement has had a new seatboard which does not fit very well. the case has a section of missing moulding to the left rear of the hood but is otherwise in reasonable condition.
