Royal Navy George V Attributed Officer's sword. A good George V example carried by Captain Alwyn Douglas Lenox-Conyngham. The blade etched with GVR cypher and crowned fouled anchor. The solid gilt metal guard emblazoned with a crowned fouled anchor. White shagreen grip surmounted by a gilt metal lion’s head pommel. The folding guard is engraved "A.D. Lenox-Conyningam" Housed in original black leather and gilt mounted scabbard fitted with two loose rings; complete with bullion sword knot. Etching to blade remains clear, gilt slightly dulled. Captain Alwyn Douglas Lenox-Conyngham entered the Royal Naval College Dartmouth in May 1921 and was appointed Midshipman in 1925. At the outbreak of WW2 he held the rank of Lt Commander and held a number of Staff appointments before promotion to Captain in 1948 and command of HMS Mermaid in 1952. During the Suez operations he was commanding HMS Jamaica. He retired in January 1958.
