1797 TURNED COVER USED THREE TIMES: First use to William Wyer, Newbury Port, Massachusetts by schooner "Hannah" (no postal marks). EL is datelined Cape Nicolau Mole, 13 Jun. 1797. Detailed content tells of problems arising from fierce fighting during the rebellion at this time. Letter was then turned by Wyer to send a message by hand to William Grainger of Salem, asking "on what principle will you take 1,000 dollars interest on the Polly & Betsy". Grainger replies declining "I have determined not to take any more risques at present". Salem postmark of 12 Jul. in red and manuscript "6" rate mark. Interesting item with transcription provided.
