Hardy (Thomas, 1840-1928). An original two-sided manuscript letter on Max Gate, Dorchester headed paper, signed by Thomas Hardy, dated 17th July 1897, to John Symonds Udal (Judge, Attorney General of Fiji and Chief Justice of the Leeward Islands), letter reads "I am too late to reply to your wire by another, & hence you will wonder why I didn't turn up. But I did not stay on in London longer than absolutely necessary, the heat was so great and I was so fagged. I hope that we shall see you again before you return and that you will ere so very long come back to a well earned repose in Dorset", 11.2cm x 17.5cm approx., loose in card mount. with original envelope. Hardy was a Victorian Novelist & Poet.
