MADELINE SMITH CANCELLATIONS: Collection of ELs written-up on A4 sheets, all franked by 1d red adhesives tied by 'Madeline Smith' cancellations. The pages are written-up with the back story of Madeline Smith, leading up to and including her trial. Also inc. a number of further (not written-up) 1d red covers displaying 'Madeline Smith' cancellations, plus three items detailing the prevalence of arsenic: a 1912 quote from a wholesale chemist in Alabama detailing the price for "1000 pounds Arsenate of Lead"; 1889 advert for wallpaper "Guaranteed Free From Arsenic"; and a 1894 newspaper article referencing the death of a young girl from arsenic poisoning.
