Three various handwritten letters of Naval Interest, comprising Letter 1. Duckworth, Sir John Thomas (1748-1817), Admiral of the Blue, in action at Lagos, Quiberon Bay, Victor at San Domingo (1806) and forced the passage of the Dardanelles (1807). Long autographed letter signed from Admiralty House, Plymouth Dock, 19th June 1815. To the Rt Honorable Nicholas Vanstittart MP, seeking support for the employment of his former secretary Robert Sconce and outlining his achievements. Letter 2. Poem written by Robert Sconce whilst under the employ of Duckworth. The subject was the death of Lt George Belli of HMS Royal George, in Dardanelles in 1807. Sconce, a scholar and linguist, born in St Kitts but schooled in Tonbridge, Kent, secretary to Duckworth for over nine years and by his side at the Battle of San Domingo and the actions in the Dardanelles. Also accompanied Duckworth to serve with Sir Harry Neale on the Revenge. letter 3. Written in 1842, from a merchant in Valparaiso to his supplier in UK. marked as caried by HMS President.
