A Pair of Fatimid Blue-Glazed Ceramic Bishop Chess Pieces, Possibly 10th–12th Century.
Each piece is fashioned in a domed form tapering slightly at the top, made from terracotta and covered in a lustrous turquoise-blue glaze with incised abstract scrollwork. The heart-shaped motif on the upper body and symmetrical curves suggest their identification as bishops.
H: Approximately 5.3 & 5.4cm
