WILLIAM C. CLUETT (active c 1880-1920). The Fleet Review at Spithead, 1911, signed, inscribed 'Portsmouth' and dated 1911, watercolour heightened with white, 20½ x 28in.
This watercolour depicts the Royal Yacht reviewing the lines of warships for the 1911 Coronation Review of the Fleet by King George V. Ships reviewed included HMS Superb; HMS Dreadnought; and HMS King Alfred.
165 vessels anchored off Spithead for the Review including 32 battleships and Dreadnoughts, and 24 armoured cruisers and 67 destroyers.The King and Queen travelled throughout the Review in HM Yacht Victoria and Albert.
