SMITH ADAM.  An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations. 2 vols. Half title to Vol. 2 (no half title required for Vol. 1). Quarto with wide margins. Library bdg., labels to front paste-down, small stamp to each title & stamp to each final leaf. The Second Edition, W. Strahan & T. Cadell, 1778.  The second edition of this classic work, 500 copies printed. This edition is the only one to be published in quarto format after the first edtion of 1776, and is scarce. This second edition contains "a number of alterations large and small, some providing new information, some correcting matters of fact, some perfecting the idiom".

Occasional spotting & foxing, strong to pp272/283 & 351 in Vol. 2. Some light tanning but otherwise overall generally clean and crisp internally. Two or three leaves with extreme marginal chips & one leaf noted with marginal tear to corner, no loss of text. No final blank leaves.
