Frame Number: RS15008
Engine Number: VR3068
- In current family ownership for c. 50 years
Renowned for the quality of their hand-built motorcycles, Velocette built more motorcycles than the likes of their rivals BSA or Norton, and were also at the forefront of motorcycle racing from the 1920s to the 50s, taking several world titles and 24 hours endurance records. The company was a great technical innovator, with many of their developed and patented designs still being used on today’s motorcycles, such as rear swinging arm suspension with hydraulic dampers.
One of their most popular models was the Viper, produced between 1955 to 1968, with a 350cc OHV single cylinder engine developing 28 bhp, and a respectable top speed of 91 mph. The sister machine, the 500cc Venom, developed 34 bhp to give a top speed of 100mph. Imagine the joy young riders found when it was discovered (by removing a spacer block and minor adjustment) they could fit a 500cc Venom top end to their 350 Viper. These machines were known as Viper/Venoms
This lovely Viper/Venom has been in the same family for the last 50 years, having been subject to an older restoration, and since being stored for c.30 years. Recently the bike has been brought out of hibernation and fully recommissioned. Now in good running order, this classic Velocette is ready for summer fun.
