Continental school (19th Century) - 'Field Marshall Prince Gebhard Leberecht Von Blucher (Prussian, 1742 -1819)', oil on canvas, old Chapman Brother of London label verso, 125cm x 98cm, inset period gilt gesso frame.
NB: Blucher was a historically fascinating man, the most highly decorate Prussian - German soldier in history, amongst many great achievements was his decisive role in Wellington's victory at the Battle of Waterloo, if you're not familiar with Blucher it's worth checking out his history.
Condition report: It is in need of some conservation and tidying up, signs of old damage and the original canvas looks to be laid on another canvas, appears period to the sitter, viewing is recommended for this large, imposing and decorative portrait of a distinguished and important historical figure, (A/F).
Provenance: Consigned from a private collection, by descent, and we believe it to have been in the same family for some generations.
