A FRAMED CERTIFICATE ON VELLUM measuring 34cm x 23cm, housed with a card border and in turn a period wooden glazed frame measuring 58cm x 45cm, the certificate was awarded by the Royal Humane Society in London on the 18th February 1891 to John Lamb, a Publican who on 17th January 1891 had gallantly rescued two young boys who were in danger of drowning in the Birmingham Canal near Brownhills, the boys had gone out onto the canal which was frozen but at the centre of the canal where the depth was approximately 8 feet, the ice had broken, Lamb went out and rescued the two brothers, Cecil & Francis Thomas Price, Lamb was the publican at the Pier Inn and was born in 1855, the certificate is signed by Sir Erasmus Ommanney (chairman) who himself was an Artctic exploration veteran, sold with considerable research ephemera
