Stewart Linford - A 20th Century antique revival 17th Century manner yew and elm large refectory dining table. Solid thick elm top raised on large solid yew block and turned square legs and supports united by central triple rail to the underside. Measures approx; H73cm x 184cm x 84cm.

This beautiful hand made table is an early example of the fine work of Stewart Linford, master craftsman of High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire and member of the worshipful company of chairmakers. Made to a bespoke design for the art director to the company to fit his own farmhouse kitchen, it comfortably seats 8 whilst being slim enough to fit into most modern kitchens or dining rooms. The deep English Elm table top measures 45mm and is one single 'plank' from the centre trunk - now extremely rare due to the devastation of Dutch Elm disease - making it truly one of a kind. The beautiful burr elm markings of the unvarnished top are unscathed by screws or other fixings as it is attached to the base using dovetail or dowl joints, further evidencing it as a master craftsman's piece. The solid English Yew legs and frame have now attained a rich patina since the table was made around 35-40 years ago and again, are unique in their dimension given the rarity of English Yew. Being one of Stewart Linford's earliest tables, it is an unmarked piece but comes from the home of the art director who originally commissioned it
