A late 17th century sword, possibly with Royalist connections, shortened blade 20½" of hollow ground flattened diamond section, etched with figures and inscriptions (mostly illegible), including the date 1649 (the year of the execution of King Charles I), mounted horseman (Charles I?) etc, the simple iron hilt having knucklebow, single side loop, down turned quillon, and fluted pommel. Basically GC with good dark patina overall (no grip). £300-400
