A worksplate, VULCAN FOUNDRY, 6234, 1955, from an East African Railways metre gauge oil burning 31 Class 2-8-4 No 3107 named BANTU after an ethnic group in Uganda. The class worked on branch lines throughout the EAR system. Cast brass, 8¾"x5¼", in ex loco condition, bevelled to fit the smokebox side. A note on the back of the plate states it is from sister engine 3103 but available records suggest otherwise. (Postage Band: B)
