£800 - £1,200
In the manner of G. Coxted & T Woster a small stained field-maple "Mullberry -Wood" and rosewood cabinet on stand, the first quarter of the 18th century. The upper section with collection moulded frieze drawer above a pair of quarter veneered doors opening to reveal an interior fitted with eleven short drawers and a central cupboard some containing secret compartments. The carcass with cross grin rosewood facia and bottom moulding. The later oak stand with five "Solomonic" turned spindles united by a shaped stretcher on five compressed bun feet. 75 cm wide x 46 cm deep x 77 cm high (just the upper section) 163.4 cm high overall.
The base is early 20th century The collection drawer seems stuck fast and I can not slide the keepers from the sides The internal drawers have had some adaptation that I can only guess was the extension of the sides when their secret compartment was removed but this is pure conjecture. The external door lock has been gutted of any wards or mechanism. The doors show some cracks in the veneer caused by veneering on a composite ground and subsequent shrinkage of the composite elements The veneer is of good thickness throughout The sides remain intact without splits
