MAILS/RATES VIA U.S. - INVERTED H.S."4" USED FOR "7", "PAID/CANADA-10-CENTS", "PARCEL POST", ETC.; 3 Dec. 1859/2 June 1860 env./EL to Ireland/Scotland ex Toronto/Chippawa with v. fine Handstruck "4" marks deliberately struck inverted for the "7" rate-claim (half 6d fine + half 8d rate via US), remarkable 19 Sept. 1864 open-ended wrapper from Toronto to Devon endorsed "Parcel Post" and "Over 2oz" and charged full unpaid "4/6" letter rate (via US) because there was only internal Parcel Post in Canada, 24 July 1867 env. (faults) to London with v. fine red "PAID/CANADA-10-CENTS" but charged "8d", etc. Good group.
