After J.M.W. Turner (1775-1851),
Five engravings on paper comprising: "Portsmouth", "Dover", "Catwater", "Whitby" and "Sheerness",
Each engraved by Thomas Lupton and published by E. Gambart & Co, May 7th 1856,
Each 21cm x 27.5cm,
In matching glazed frames each 39cm x 45.7cm overall,
With a further engraving on paper after Turner, "Plymouth Sound", engraved and published by W.B. Cooke March 1st 1823, 27cm x 36cm, framed and glazed, 44.5cm x 54cm overall (6)
All six prints are framed under glass and have not been removed for inspection. All show some darkening to the paper, and "Plymouth Sound" shows a slight ripple. Several of the prints show small dead insects under the glass. The frames are not period, but are structurally sound and sealed at the backs. All show some wear to the gilt and ebonised finish.
