MARKET TOKENS. Farringdon & Borough, A. CHAPMAN, 6 Pence, brass, NEF, together with similar, 1 Shilling, 37mm x 26mm, oval brass, VF, both by R. Neal. The obverse of the 6d value is clearly re-struck from a die of J. Johnson, 298 York St. London Road (1865-1892), while the reverse is evidently from Neals's own dies, and gives his address as 49 & 50 Percival St (1895-1929). The 1/- value suggests less clear evidence of a similar history. See R. Hawkins, "A Dictionary of Makers of British metallic tickets, checks, medalets, tallies and counters 1788-1910," p.664, no.5.
