Mrs E. E. Munro Advanced Needlework Course Eight card folios, hand drawn coloured garments to front wraps with detailed patterns in the contents; With two ring binders containing 'a Record of Work Collected', and one other folder, in fantastic condition, circa 1950. (11) This fascinating collection of evidence for the 'Advanced Needlework' course is an extremely charming example of fashion and folk art from the mid-20th century. Mrs Munro shows that she not only has a skillful hand, but also quite the organised mind. The card folios with drawings of said garments are a particular highlight. The 'Folder for a Quilted Dressing Gown' has examples of the needlework required for the dolphins as well as the patterns. Surely, this would have taken hours of work. The largest of the ring binders is packed full of coursework, showing Sewing Stiches, Plain Seams, Smocking, Tucks, Lace, Appliques, Shadow Work, English Quilting, Silks, Linens, etc, together with pages dedicated to varieties of wool, cottons and types of needle amongst others. It appears that Mrs Munro was/is a very skilfull lady indeed.
