AN ASHANTEE AND SOUTH AFRICA PAIR TO A MUSICIAN ABOARD H.M.S. ACTIVE. An Ashantee Medal 1873-1874 named to E.G. Littlejohns Bandsn H.M.S. Active 73-74 and South Africa Medal named to E.S. Littlejohns Musn. H.M.S. Active. Edward Smith Littlejohns was born on the 22nd January 1865 at Mile End in London. He joined the Royal Navy as a Band Boy at the age of 17 years. He appears to have requested permission to leave the Navy at Simon's Bay in South Africa. There were 568 Ashantee Medals to Active and 201 South Africa Medals. With copied research. See lot 741 for medals to Edward Samuel Littlejohns, possibly this recipients son.
