A FINE VICTORIAN SILVER EWER AND STAND

by John, Edward, Walter & John Barnard, London 1873, the baluster form ewer with a scroll rim, embossed with spume, putto, husk garlands and foliate scrolls, one side with a panel depicting Neptune and his Triton, the other depicting Amphitrite surrounded by Nereids, with a leaf and husk-capped scroll handle with a dolphin mask junction, on a central leaf and scroll knopped stem, raised on a spread circular base embossed with scrolls on a matted fluted ground, the shaped oval stand of spread form, foliate scroll border, each end with an applied Triton blowing his horn, one side engraved The Birmingham & District Licensed Victuallers Billiard League Handicap Challenge Cup, Presented by Messrs Burroughes & Watts Ltd, both pieces profusely engraved with winners presentation inscriptions. Height on stand 54cm, weight 146 troy ounces gross
