A RARE VICTORIAN SILVER 'BATTLE OF MOOLTAN' WAR MEDAL AND ASSOCIATED EPHEMERA
Awarded to Major John Browning Ballasis, Commander 9th Regiment, N.I., ,having a young Victorian portrait bust and ceremonial image verso To The Army of The Punjab',on a blue and yellow ribbon, together with a watercolour portrait of The Major wearing this medal and period uniform, inscribed verso ‘An General J.B. Bellasis 1860’, a handwritten journal titled 'Scratchings of An Indian Journal J.B.B., 1822 - 1840’ and a large Carte De Visite photograph of an Indian Prince marked to base 'Johnston Hoffmann, 22 Chowringhee Rd, Calcutta’.
N.B. Major General John Brownrigg Bellasis, 1806 - 1890, commanded his Regiment 9th Bombay Infantry during 2nd Punjab War and at The Siege of Multan. He received a medal and clasp for distinguished service in the field. He commanded The Garrison at Hyderabad (Sinde) during the mutiny and by prompt and firm action averted a disaster.
