Audi released the original Quattro to European customers in late 1980, featuring Audi's quattro permanent four-wheel drive system, and the first to mate four-wheel drive with a turbocharged engine. The original engine was the 2,144 cc inline-5-cylinder 10 valve SOHC, with a turbocharger and intercooler. It produced 197 bhp and torque of 210 lbf·ft, at 3500 rpm; propelling the Quattro from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 7.1s, and reaching a top speed of over 137 mph.

The engine was eventually modified to a 2,226 cc inline-5 10 valve, and in 1989, it was then changed to a 2,226 cc 136 cu in inline-5 20v 2.2 L DOHC setup producing 217 bhp, now with a top speed of 143 mph). Audi Quattros are referred to among owners and enthusiasts by their engine codes, to differentiate between the earlier and later versions: the earliest 2144 cc 10v being the "WR" engine, the 2226 cc 10v being the "MB" engine, and the later 20v being the "RR" engine. Hence, Quattro models may be referred to as either the WR Quattro, MB Quattro, and RR or "20v" Quattro, respectively. Quattro car production was 11,452 vehicles over the period 1980–1991

This Quattro was originally purchased by a Mr Donald Dewar-Mills from the Audi Dealership Whites of Haselmere in 1986. Mr Dewar-Mills owned the car until passing to my neighbour David Luffingham on the 23rd November 1988. David used this Quattro on a daily basis enjoying many, many years of exciting motoring until being retired to his garage in 2012. During his ownership David spent an absolute fortune in keeping the car in good order carrying out many upgrades comprising replacement later gearbox, exhaust system, ECU upgrades and more importantly the installation of a new 2.2 litre 15 DOHC 20 valve engine. We took ownership of the car in 2013 to carry out sympathetic restoration which was not completed until May this year. The end result being an excellent example of this marque which will offer pure enjoyment to it’s new owner. The restoration comprising of rust prevention to chassis and component parts, brakes, steering, engine ancillary items, turbo re-build, cam belt, clutch master cylinder, bodywork, panel work resprayed where necessary, analogue display re-built, re-trimming to drivers seat, detailed engine bay and much more. The restoration was not to make a ‘show queen’ but to bring the car to a level where it presents very favourably enabling daily use if required offering enjoyable driving but also allowing the new owner to be able to take it to the next stage if required which would result in a show contender.
