QV 1d Red (Perf 16, blue paper) Athenaeum Club entire containing signed letter of Sir David Brewster (1781-1868) - physicist, inventor, writer & academic; best known for his invention of the kaleidoscope & role in developing the stereoscope. Sent to Horace Townsend of Dublin, the letter concerns arrangements for a reference book to be sent to St Leonard's College, St Andrew's University for Brewster's use. In addition c.40 unused pre-paid covers/cards, KGV-QEII, some in original sale-value sleeves.
