US cavalry troopers sword, blade markes ‘U.S.; with foliate decoration, other side features further foliate decoration with latin ‘Pluribus Uncum’, marked ‘U.S. DK 1851’ to bottom of blade. ‘IRON PROOF’ inscribed to top ridge of blade. Brass guard with foliate and ‘U.S.’ design, leather and wire handle. In brass and black metal scabbard with two suspension rings. Blade length 78cm, overall length 102cm.
