The lock, stock and steel mounts of an Austrian military flintlock carbine, 37" overall, the lock bearing small eagle mark and numbers, the mounts include muzzle band and single barrel band but no trigger guard. The stock GC, the lock partly cleaned, the mounts heavily rusted; also the stock and steel mounts of an unidentified British cavalry carbine c 1860-1870, 36½" overall, the mounts include a single barrel band, saddle bar and ring, and sling swivel, the full length barrel groove suggests something like a bolt action and the presence of a large circular aperture in the right side something like a cocking lever. Poor condition, the mounts heavily rusted, the butt worn. Ex Bernard Hinchley Collection, sold by Wallis and Wallis in 2008. Given the provenance the second item may well be a trial piece or prototype of something like a needle fire. (2) £100-150
