DUNDONNELL CAUSE, REPORT OF THE TRIAL BY JURY, THOMAS MACKENZIE ESQ
Trial; Roy, Robert, Defendant; MacGregor, Simon, publication date: 1830, only edition. Roy, a Scottish lawyer, was accused of swindling an estate from his client Kenneth Mackenzie of Dundonnell by Mackenzie's son Thomas. The trial attracted several notable legal names, among them Henry Cockburn, who had secured an acquittal for Helen McDougal in the famous Burke and Hare murder trial the year before. His jury address and the exchanges between counsel are well-documented in our account. The jury was split and a second trial was held in January 1831, which resulted in Roy's conviction, ¾ calf over marbled boards. Good order for age, toned and spotted.
