Royal William. 1838-39 Entire letters carried on the City of Dublin Steam Packet Co. "Royal William", two letters carried on the second return voyage, from Philadelphia paid 75c + $1.50 freight money fee and charged 9/6, or from New York charged 2/10 but endorsed "allowed 1/5", both with red Liverpool Ship Letter probably applied in London; another carried on the third and final voyage, prepaid 1/- from Newcastle to New York with red Liverpool and London Ship datestamps. Also an entire to London endorsed to go on the first return voyage from New York, privately carried. The "Royal William" was the first steamer to sail from Liverpool, only making three transatlantic voyages in each direction. (4).
