** PLYMOUTH (DEVON) - PRISON HOSPITAL SHIP LE CATON - COVER EX FRANCE WITH RARE CENSOR's "Exd. C.H.L." INITIALS; 6 July 1799 EL sent by private means (direct cartel vessel to Plymouth presumably) from "St. Malo" (from the addressee's father with family & financial news etc.) to "Joseph Cor, Prisonnier de Guerre, a l'Hopital de Mill Prison, actuellement a Bord du Ponton Le Caton, a Plymouth, Devonshire" [this ship was a Hospital Ship for POWs from October 1798]. There are no postal marks but it has the very rare (only recorded) manuscript "Exd. C.H.L." Plymouth Censor-Agent's endorsement on the flap. Cor had been captured on the privateer 'Le Triton' (on 17 July 1798 by the British frigate Melpomene in the English Channel). An early Revolutionary War POW cover.
